RMAL's 2024 regular season and Champs are in the books. Congratulations to each and every one of our exceptional swimmers on a truly remarkable season! And what an exciting end to our year it was!
We want to give a big thank you to our countless volunteers who make this happen year after year, especially our parent representatives and coaches, who generously give their time and energy to give our swimmers experiences and memories that will last a lifetime.
Champs Records
Nine records were made at Champs this year! Congratulations to the following swimmers:

ACAC's Billy Grau broke the 50 yd Breaststroke record in the 15-18 boys age group with a time of 26.28. The previous record was held by Charlie Swanson (GR) 26.42 set in 2016.

Brighton Green's Ryan Hufford broke 2 records in the 15-18 boys age group.

100 free with a time of 45.53. The old record - Crash Ackerly (GR) 45.63 set in 2023.

50 fly with a time of 21.91, breaking his own record of 21.97 set in 2023.

Charter Colony's Cadel Schwartz broke the 50 yd Breastroke record in the 9-10 boys age group with a time of 35.93. The previous record was held by Matthew Kittrell (GR) 36.41 set in 1997.

Shenandoah's Ayden Greer broke the 50 yd Backstroke record in the 13-14 boys age group with a time of 24.98 during the lead-off leg of the 200 yd Mixed Medley Relay. The previous record was held by Mark Macomson (ST) 25.11 set in 2018.

Shenandoah's Cassie Bauer broke the 50 yd Breastoke record in the 15-18 girls age group with a time of 29.39. The previous record was held by Molly Blanchard (WO) 30.03 set in 2021.

Shenandoah's Trey Young broke 2 records in the 13-14 boys age group.

50 breast with a time of 27.68. The old record - Jack Clippinger (MDY) 28.00 set in 2022.

50 fly with a time of 23.88. The old record - Aidin Muminovic (ACAC) 23.98 set in 2023.

Shenandoah's 13-14 200 yd Mixed Medley Relay team of Ayden Greer, Chloe Clemmons, Trey Young, and Kylee Crotts set a new time of 1:44.69. The previous record was held by Bon Air (C. Boykin, G. Sheble, M. Burton, C. Sheble) 1:48.04 set in 2017.

Week 4 Records
Last week, led by Cassie Bauer, Shenandoah set four new RMAL meter records, including breaking a 39-year-old record in the 13-14 200 Meter Mixed Medley Relay.
Cassie broke 3 records in the 15-18 girls age group:

100 Meter Individual Medley with a time of 1:04.94. The previous record was held by Molly Blanchard (Willow Oaks) with a time of 1:05.78 set in 2021.

50 Meter backstroke with a time of 30.25. The previous record was held by Molly Blanchard (Willow Oaks) with a time of 30.63 set in 2021.

50 Meter breaststroke with a time of 33.42. The previous record was held by Becky Acker (SM) with a time of 34.50 set in 1999.
The Shenandoah 13-14 200 Meter Mixed Medley Relay team of Ayden Greer, Chloe Clemmons, Trey Young, and Kylee Crotts set a new time of 2:03.48. The previous record was held by Briarwood (J. Hedley, J. Freitag, S. Hutcherson, B. Hutcherson) with a time of 2:09.74 set in 1985.

~US Olympic Team Trials for Paris 2024~
RMAL wants to send out huge congrats to some current and former RMAL swimmers who swam at the Olympic time trials in Indianapolis.
Crash Ackerley - Granite - 200 back
Emerson Callis - Stonehenge - 200 fly
Ryan Hufford - Brighton Green - 100 back
Caroline Sheble - Bon Air - 200 fly
Charlie Swanson - Granite and Willow Oaks - 200 breast
*Won semifinals in 100 breast and placed 2nd Finals on Sunday night

With a long history of competition, RMAL has had its share of dynasties. Which teams have taken those top spots most often? The Brandermill Makos have seen 16 season wins. Brandermill and ACAC (Briarwood) have enjoyed 12 Champs wins each.

The Richmond Metro Aquatic League was founded in 1976. Our teams hail from the northern half of Chesterfield County and the southwest side of Richmond, VA. We have a compact footprint that allows for quick trips to nearby meets and a unique camaraderie between teams.
